A detail of a single deck fitting on the USS Constitution. This is an active duty US Navy ship that has been in active service since 1797, named by George Washington and commissioned by John Adam. This is the oldest commisioned naval vessel in the world. It got it's nick name, Old Ironsides, in the war of 1812 when fired upon by the HMS Guerriere, Java, Pictou, Cyane, and Levant and incoming enemy fire bounced off of her New England Hardwood hull.
